Do you want to keep your flexibility, strength and mobility of your 20's well into your 60's and 70's? This month, client Robin shares her inspirational fitness journey with us on how she has maintained her fitness throughout her life.
Tell us your name and a little bit about yourself?
Hi, I'm Robin Schutt, I'm a fit 70 year old semi-retiree, married with 3 children and 7 grand-children who are the light of my life.
I worked in main stream advertising as an executive for over 40 years. It is a young person's game and to stay on top of it I needed to stay fit, I wasn't prepared to let my body or mind go with age. To facilitate this I rose several mornings a week at 5:30am and joined the 6:30am classes at the gym. And I've never stopped, staying fit is part of who I am and I can't live without it!
When did you start your Pilates journey?
As I got older, I adapted my gym program accordingly, so about 5 years ago I started doing Pilates. My gym offers Pilates in various forms, but I chose a private Pilates studio in order to gain the most benefit.
How did you find APM?
About 12 months ago, a friend suggested I try APM and I've never left.
What is the reason you keep doing Pilates?
The team have worked on my technique, which is a constant work-in-progress and further developed my skills. There's always something new to try and each session is different.
What do you feel the biggest benefit has been?
The benefits for me are enormous, I’m fit and strong and exceptionally healthy. I still do 2 spin and weight sessions a week and I work hard at it. I walk tall and proud and do not feel my age.
Do you have goals to reach in your Pilates journey?

Do you have a favourite Pilates exercise or sequence?
I love each of the Pilates disciplines, they each have challenges, but my favourite is the Cadillac (tower). The Wunda Chair would be the most challenging and therefore my least favourite.
How often do you attend classes at APM?
Currently, I do 2 regular sessions weekly at APM, and sometimes work as a ‘body’ for one of the trainees. In all the years I have exercised I have never regretted attending a session. The culture at APM is welcoming, professional and fun. I enjoy everyone’s company and walk out a little taller after each session. Thank you APM team.
